Our Heritage
The founding and growth of Hytek.
In 1994, a group of southeast Manitoba hog producers came together to fulfill a common vision: to create one of the most advanced and efficient operating structures for the production of hogs. The result was the Vielfaure / Janzen Group (later named Hytek) which was comprised of the operations of the Vielfaure family (brothers Paul, Denis and Claude) and that of fellow local hog producer Don Janzen.
Moving towards self-sufficiency, the group built a feed mill in 1995 to supply their operation. Three years later they launched a finishing division in order to raise some of their feeder pigs to market weight. Hyteks goals had shifted from selling their entire production of young pigs, to retaining a significant portion to be raised locally, as well as in the United States.
As the company expanded, and its growth strategies continued to evolve, Grant Lazaruk and Henry Van de Velde (with their respective financial and marketing expertise) were brought on board to enhance Hyteks management team. The company remains focused on efficient (industry leading) hog production and on finding new opportunities for growth and creating value-added partnerships.
While Hytek has grown into a true global company, with facilities and customers across North America and beyond, the company’s head office remains located in rural Manitoba. As a company, Hytek wears its homegrown principles with pride, as demonstrated in living up to the values that are the cornerstones of our business. The Management and staff of Hytek believe deeply in giving back to the communities where we do business.
